Absolutely! It's one of the best things you can do to make your bunny's life a happy and fulfilled one. Rabbits in the wild live in big groups and are very sociable animals, so it makes sense that they should live with at least one other bunny friend!
We provide a neutral area in which to carry out the bonding process. We are on hand with expert care and with extensive knowledge of bunny welfare and rabbit body language.
We require all bunnies arriving for bonding to be neutered (minimum of 8 weeks post op) and fully vaccinated for Myxomatosis, RHDV1 & RHDV2. This gives the bunnies the best chances of forming a successful bond and also protects them and all our other guests from disease.
This is what hotel owner, Kate says:-
"Since our facilities are calming and unfamiliar to them, bunnies can start their interactions with each other on completely neutral territory. This ensures that any home territory issues with the original bunny won't prohibit them from forming a bond with their new partner.
The initial 72 hours are crucial and intense. Throughout this period your rabbits will have constant supervision, which requires me to sleep (if I'm lucky) alongside them so I can be there if anything were to 'kick off’.
Within this 72 hour period it usually becomes very apparent if the bonding will be successful or not. If for any reason, I feel that that the bonding won't work out, for example; excessive fighting occurs even after intervention and it becomes clear that they intend to cause each other a major injury, I will separate them and contact you to discuss options.
At all times throughout the bonding process I have your rabbit's best interests at heart and if I think that they are at risk of being injured, I will step in to prevent this, and if I think it really won't work I will let you know as soon as possible.
We have a variety of rooms, bonding pens and enclosures that are used as the bunnies progress through the various stages of bonding. This gives us complete flexibility to meet their individual needs.
Unfortunately, sometimes even with the best intentions and constant supervision, injuries can occur during the bonding process. I have never had this happen, but there's always a first time and I will require you to sign a contract to verify that any injuries caused that result in veterinary treatment, you as the owner will be responsible for payment of these fees in full.
If a particular pairing doesn’t work, we would be delighted to make arrangements for you to visit our friends at Fluffy Butts rescue, where a “bunny swop” can be arranged to find an alternative partner.
I am more than happy to keep you updated via text and send videos/pictures by email on your rabbit's progress throughout the bonding process."
When you go home with your newly "loved up" bunnies, we will provide you with a helpful guide on how to make sure that the bond continues successfully at home. This includes many tips on what behaviours to look out for and what NOT to do, so that you can best protect their new relationship.
